Cultivating spaces for extraordinary artists

Bill Lock - project update for IN

When I began the process of exploring Bill Lock's life in South Shropshire, I told the people I met that I was like a spacewoman dropped from a spaceship, knowing nothing - so they had to describe and explain the world Bill inhabited.

I have had so many wonderful meetings and heard so many wonderful stories - and now I have the challenge of creating a film that does justice to them!

On November 29th some of Bill's family and a group of people who had known Bill joined in a procession to his grave in St George's church, to lay a floral tribute to his memory. The Shropshire Bedlams, who had danced at his funeral, were going to lead the procession but sadly a personal tragedy meant they could not participate.

For me it was a moment for reflecting on Bill's life and the amazing memories that are still remembered by so many  people – and afterwards in the Sun Inn, where there is still a photograph of Bill on the wall, I could thank those who had so generously shared those memories with me.
