Cultivating spaces for extraordinary artists

Call Out: DAO Seek Curator

Disability Arts Online (DAO) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a passionate and visionary Curator to spearhead the delivery of an exciting new aspect of DAO’s creative programme.

Informed by lived experience of disability, the Curator will lead, establish and deliver on the curation and programming of DAO’s digital gallery (opening early 2025).

In this role, you will be at the forefront of curating a diverse range of exhibitions that engage with contemporary issues and artistic practices. Your strategic vision will help shape a space that not only showcases exceptional work by disabled artists but also challenges and delights audiences across the UK and beyond.

Your work will begin with the development of our digital gallery, where you will lead audience engagement efforts in collaboration with our communications team. You will commission and support artists throughout their creative processes, ensuring their work is showcased effectively. Additionally, you will play a vital role in the DAO talent development programme, mentoring emerging artists and curators through one-to-one sessions and webinars. You will also advocate for better representation of disabled artists within the visual arts sector.

DAO is a key partner in DASH’s Future Curators Programme (FCP), a residency programme for disabled curators within visual arts institutions.

After 12 months of employment at DAO, you will be able to embark on a career development opportunity and undertake a residency with fellow FCP partner Arts Catalyst.

You will work with their curatorial team to develop a new exhibition or project at Arts Catalyst’s venue in Sheffield.

Through this, you will have the opportunity to undertake training, mentoring, meet with other disabled curators to share learning and be part of a nationally significant programme leading sector change.
